SMDS & MSDA COVID-19 Updates

April 1st, 2020 SMDS All Dental Assisting Classes have been postponed. New dates to be announced.

March 20th, 2020 The Southern Maryland Dental Society office in College Park is closed for the next 2 weeks.  Valerie Fridley, Executive Director,  will be working remotely.

March 16th, 2020: In light of the rapidly growing developments regarding official responses to the coronavirus (COVID-19), The Maryland State Dental Association recommends all dental practices voluntarily suspend all non-essential and non-urgent dental care for at least 3 weeks. This recommendation reflects our continuing concern for the safety, health and well being of your patients, your staff and yourself. The fluid activities at the state and federal levels suggest the possibility that more stringent and mandated restrictions are possible. The MSDA recommends promptly making provisions for further disruptions to your practice in the near future.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation, provide updates and statements as the situation evolves. The following are several resources available that are regularly being updated on the continuing situation:

SOUTHERN MARYLAND DENTAL SOCIETY

Get Ready for Dentist Day 2021!

Dear SMDS Members,

Our monthly general membership meeting for February has been moved to the evening of Monday February 8.

For this Monday February 1 at 7pm, the MSDA invites you to participate in a virtual Dentist Day in Annapolis primer/legislative update.  Participation is free.  To sign up, please use this link:   Dentist Day  or visit the MSDA website for more information.

The roll-out of the vaccine distribution plan made it clear how involved we need to be in our advocacy efforts at every level of government. This year’s Dentist Day will be a little different because of the virtual session.

We will begin with an informative webinar on the evening of Feb. 1, to explain the changes, how appointments with legislators will be set up and conducted, and the latest information on the session. Current legislation that effects your dental practice will be reviewed.

On the morning of Feb. 15, we will host our first ever Dentist Day Seminar where we will meet for the first hour to talk about legislation, discuss the virtual session, and ask any questions of our lobbying team. The second hour we’ll conduct a panel discussion with several legislators followed by a Q&A.

Lastly, our legislator meetings will be conducted virtually the week of Feb. 15-19. MSDA will host the meetings through Zoom, you’ll just need to send the link to the legislator and jump on your computer.

We are trying to make this as easy as possible for everybody, while including some new programming.  We hope you’ll consider participating.
Sincerely,

Charles A. Doring DDS
SMDS Trustee
MSDA Legislative Committee Chair
